Karen and Will's old kitchen
Karen and Will live with their two sons, Seb and Ailbe, in Drimnagh, Dublin. Ailbe has autism and is non-verbal. His additional needs require full-time care, leaving his parents exhausted and unable to cope with the rising tide of clutter. Home Rescue's Dee Coleman and Cash & Carry Kitchens' own expert kitchen designer Adam Butler were challenged to overhaul the cramped and disconnected kitchen layout and create a space suitable for the entire family.

Karen and Will's new kitchen
Dee and Adam designed a social, family haven. The new layout creates space for a proper dining area for family meals and also to invite friends over for coffee. "I'm used to coming into a small, narrow, dark, cluttered kitchen", says Karen. "And now I'm in what feels like a new house".

A Mirano kitchen
The Mirano Sage is from Cash & Carry Kitchens' Modern Heritage collection. The woodgrain effect Italian door provides a balance between a thin and a chunky rail shaker, while the nature-inspired sage colour creates a sense of calm. "I love how classy the colours are", says Will.

The Bi-Fold unit
The bi-fold unit features doors that fold in half, allowing for easy access to the entire contents of the unit. Inside, there are wine racks, glass holders, shelves and extra countertop space - perfect for storing small appliances. Dee and the team have kitted it out as a drinks cabinet. "Opening the bi-fold was quite a treat", Karen tells us. "It gives me that adult, girly night, social feel".

Storage
"What do you think of the storage generally?" asks Dee. "It's amazing having so much", Karen replies. "I love the drawers". Will likes the storage beneath the peninsula: "Yeah, storage all over the place. It's awesome!".

The end result
"It's amazing", Will tells Dee. "It's just incredible". Karen reflects on how it compares to the old kitchen. "It is unrecognisable. It's so wide and open. It's a completely new space".
