Home Rescue 2025: Laura and Mark's kitchen transformation in Tallaght

Laura and Mark needed a fully functional cooking and dining space. Here's how Dee Coleman and the Cash & Carry Kitchens team helped make their dream kitchen a reality.

Laura and Mark's old kitchen

Laura and Mark live with their two children, Hannah and Dominic, in Tallaght in Dublin. In 2023, their third child Ria was stillborn. As they grieved, the couple found it hard to manage their home and the clutter gradually began to build until every shelf and drawer was filled. Home Rescue's Dee Coleman, along with Cash & Carry Kitchens' own expert kitchen designer Adam Butler, was challenged to reimagine the kitchen as a fully functional cooking and dining space.

Laura and Mark's new kitchen

Dee and Adam designed a cosy yet social kitchen. "It's so much more open", says Laura. This was achieved by relocating the cooking area to the peninsula, allowing the couple to interact with the rest of the family as they prepare meals. "There are so many more possibilities", adds Laura.

An Augusta two-tone kitchen

The Augusta is from Cash & Carry Kitchens' Modern Heritage collection. The shaker-style door is stylish and homely and comes in a number of eye-catching, on-trend colours. Dee and Adam opted for a two-tone effect, with the Augusta Light Grey and Graphite. The contrasting shades turn the peninsula into a standout feature. "It looks amazing", says Laura.

Peninsula Layout

The peninsula layout features a counter connected to cabinetry on one side. In this instance, it's used to subtly divide the kitchen and living space in Dee's open-plan design. The peninsula has space for seating on one side and storage on the other. Meanwhile, the downdraft extractor hob allows it to be used for cooking. Laura is a fan of the redesign: "It's amazing just to be able to stand here and cook while people are sitting over there".

Corner Storage

Dee explains that sometimes there can be a risk of creating corners with dead space. However, clever corner storage solutions prevent this from happening in Laura and Mark's kitchen. A Le Mans corner unit has been installed at one end. Its sleek swing-out mechanism means that pots, pans and other kitchen essentials can be easily stored and hidden away. Meanwhile, extra deep storage has been installed behind the peninsula to make sure full use is made of the second corner. "There's no space wasted", Dee tells us.

The end result

"We love our new kitchen", says Laura. She can't single out just one favourite feature, but the pull-out spice rack and integrated appliances are two highlights. "The new kitchen has a bright future", she concludes. "There's going to be a lot of friends coming over, a lot of meals prepared, a lot of happy times in here going forward".
