Ann and Peter's old kitchen
After 45 years in their Clondalkin home, Ann and Peter O’Malley were overwhelmed by clutter. Their life was made more challenging by Peter’s recent vision loss. With safety and comfort top priorities, Home Rescue's Dee Coleman, along with Cash & Carry Kitchens' own expert kitchen designer Adam Butler, transformed the kitchen into an accessible, clutter-free haven for the whole family.

Dee and Adam designed a brighter, better-functioning kitchen for the family. Clever storage solutions help prevent clutter, while colour-contrast surfaces make it a safer space for visually-impaired Peter.

A Modica Light Grey kitchen
The Modica Light Grey is from Cash & Carry Kitchens' contemporary collection. Its matt finish and sleek, clean lines create a fresh and modern look and feel. Meanwhile, the soft Light Grey shade makes the room feel considerably brighter without being stark. The new space is light and airy, while the darker countertops, brass handles and wooden slat system add a sense of warmth. "It's just amazing", says Ann. "Outstanding".

Storage
"So, your old kitchen only had one food press. What do you think of all the storage now?", asks Dee. Ann is in awe. "I can't get over the amount of presses in such a small kitchen", she says. She's a big fan of the pull-out features, such as the Le Mans corner unit. "You're not going in the presses saying 'where's that? where's that?'", she adds. The new kitchen now has ample space for all of the family's food supplies, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. There's even additional storage beneath the bench seating in the dining area.

Feature Wall
The dining area is on the opposite side of the room. There's bench seating with storage both overhead and underneath. This backs onto slat panels in a natural oak finish, creating a stunning feature wall.

The end result
Ann has too many favourite features in the kitchen to mention: "the counter, the cooker, the presses... everything!" The space is much more accessible. Presses are easy to reach and she can see what's in them without having to stand on a stool. The integrated fridge-freezer is a highlight for Peter - "I can't believe it".
