Caoimhe and Arran's old kitchen

Caoimhe and Arran live with their little boy Frankie in Ballycanew, just outside Gorey in Co. Wexford. Their lives changed forever when Caoimhe was diagnosed with brain cancer just days after giving birth to Frankie. With ongoing scans, the couple have been left unable to plan for the future. Home Rescue's Dee Coleman, along with Cash & Carry Kitchens' own expert kitchen designer Adam Butler, were tasked with transforming the dated and cluttered kitchen into a safe and calming space.

Dee and Adam designed a kitchen with clear storage and room to breathe. The new layout makes life much easier for the family - there's space for everything and visual clutter is eliminated. Since Caoimhe’s condition has affected her spatial awareness, it was especially important to create an environment that she could comfortably navigate.

The  Dereham Taupe is from Cash & Carry Kitchens' Modern Heritage collection. The shaker-style door has a wood effect finish, which is complemented by its warm, neutral tones."I just absolutely love it", says Caoimhe. "It's just so pretty to look at". The colour is amazing adds Arran.

Island Layout

The kitchen island creates a multifunctional space that serves as extra counter space, a practical workstation, and a casual spot for the family to gather. The downdraft extractor hob allows for cooking on the island. It cleverly combines two appliances in one: an induction hob and a built-in extractor fan. The extractor hob was essential as Caoimhe used to constantly bang her head off the old extractor hood.

Storage

Caoimhe can't believe the difference compared to their old kitchen. "It's like night and day", she says. "Everything is tidy and tucked away". The space utilises an array of storage solutions, including integrated bins, chrome baskets, tall units and deep drawers in the island. "There's no more visual clutter", adds Caoimhe. "That was really important".

The end result

"It's amazing", Arran tells Dee. "From the colour to the layout, they just thought of everything". Caoimhe likes all the appliances, but the tall freezer is her favourite. "It's great to have everything so easily accessible", she explains. Her final verdict on the kitchen as a whole is glowing: "It's everything that we hoped for and all the problems have been addressed".
