Customer Story: The Corkery’s Lyndale Kitchen

How the Corkery’s transformed their space to include better storage, increased countertop space and a bold, yet classic style.

The Corkery’s Lyndale Kitchen

The Corkery's designed their kitchen with the help of our expert designer, Marie Browne. They booked their free design appointment on our website and began their journey. Their previous kitchen was installed quickly during their initial remodel 10 years ago and it had been a "big box quick flat pack" kitchen.

The Corkery's wanted a "timeless, classic door style" that would "stand the test of time”. Marie suggested our Lyndale range,  a premium in-frame design at a sensible price. The Lyndale kitchen oozes quality and craftsmanship. The Corkery's loved the idea of having a "dark colour" in their kitchen, this confirmed that our Lyndale kitchen is the right choice for the family, as the door is delivered primed and ready to be hand painted in your chosen colour. The Lyndale kitchen has the added benefits of bespoke units to help improve storage.

Pain Points

The Corkery’s previous kitchen had limited countertop space and storage problems. Their goal was to increase functionality and include a social point within their kitchen. Marie mentions that the worktop "wasn’t flush everywhere”, and that there were “nooks and crannies” throughout the original kitchen. This led to a lot of good space being lost within the design.

The Corkery’s also wanted their kitchen to have a “nicely styled look”. The kitchen had an opening to the back of the house and extension, but the space still felt very closed off for the family. Within the design they wanted to work "vertically" as they had tall ceilings, and  wanted to get rid of the all the "nooks" and bring symmetry to the design.

Resolutions

Countertop Space

“Once building works were done to open up a wall we were able to install a U-shaped kitchen with an additional peninsula” says Marie. The peninsula gave much needed counter space, and a spot for the family to engage with cooking in the kitchen as they love to make homemade pizzas together on a Friday night.

Storage

Storage was improved with the addition of tall cabinets, corner storage and deep drawers. The previous design had base cabinets only, therefore giving the family limited storage. The Lyndale allows for greater flexibility for taller height doors which was needed to make use of the vertical space in the area.

“The ovens which were originally under counter were moved eye level so that the clients could get some large storage drawers under the hob, and corner accessories were added to make the use of all the space” says Marie.

Features

Quooker Tap

The Quooker tap provides instant boiling water and is an effcient energy saving solution for any home. Esther Corkery described this as her favourite feature in the kitchen saying that "everything is so much easier". The Corkery's work from home, therefore the Quooker tap allows for the family to make a cup of tea or coffee between calls much quicker. The Quooker tap also removes the need for a kettle in kitchen which in turn frees up countertop space. "It was clear to me that having the access to the boiling water tap would be a no brainer, its safer for the children than a kettle that could be pulled down off the counter and burn someone easily" says designer, Marie.

Peninsula

Countertop space was a huge painpoint for the Corkery's, but after knocking the wall to create more room Marie included the peninsula into their design. Not only does the peninsula add to countertop space, it also has built in storage solutions and seating area. It has become a social point for the family who love to spend time together in the kitchen. "The peninsula gave spot for the client’s small children to engage with cooking in the kitchen as they love to make homemade pizzas together on a Friday night" says Marie.

Integrated Ovens

The addition of integrated appliances allows for a more uniform aesthetic in any kitchen space. Marie suggested moving the appliances to eye level and integrating these into the design. In doing so, the customers could get some deep drawers under the hob also, which improved functionality and storage.
